As a childbirth educator for 38 years and a labor doula for 16, I have come to realize a more comprehensive class is beneficial to most expectant parents. For many years I taught in a hospital setting which was a total of four weeks and eight hours. People from my classes were reaching out to me after they gave birth sharing how they wish class had been a bit longer. Even though each week I taught coping skills and how to communicate, they felt rushed and like there could be…more....
I took that to heart when developing Active Birth Class.
I suggest you take these classes early in your pregnancy – about 24-28 weeks is ideal. There are several reasons for that. First, the pregnant person is much more comfortable. Second, you will have time to use and practice what you learn, including the communication skills as well as breathing and relaxation.
Classes are offered weekday evenings as a four-week series well as one full day class per month for those short on time.
That said, if these classes do not fit your schedule please feel free to reach out to me anyway because I have many resources and will be happy to share! The important thing is you get the class that is right for YOU!

In this class you will learn:
-
Communication skills
-
Comfort techniques for labor
-
How to be an AMAZING support person
-
Phases and stages of labor
-
Interventions - when they are needed...and not!
-
Making choices that are right for you
-
How to have a positive birth memory
-
Breathing and relaxation skills for birth and beyond
-
Birth plans and vision boards
-
The Lamaze Six Healthy Birth Practices
I am a Lamaze certified childbirth educator and I fully embrace the Six Healthy Birth Practices within my Active Birth Class program. It is my belief that parents need to be equal partners in their health care during pregnancy. This series of classes will teach you all you need to effectively communicate with those caring for you in this very exciting time of your life and help you become a partner in your healthcare.
Classes are interactive and more importantly...FUN! I will never ask you to do something that is out of your comfort zone. Some fully participate while others learn better by sitting and watching. All is acceptable!
